Áslákur Ingvarsson is an Icelandic baritone with a background in classical opera, contemporary performance, and sound design. He holds a Postgraduate degree from The Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp and a Bachelor’s degree from the Iceland University of the Arts, in addition to a degree in Sonology from the Institute of Sonology in the Netherlands.
Áslákur’s operatic repertoire includes roles such as Dr. Malatesta (Don Pasquale), Marcello (La Bohème), and Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia). In 2024, he made his European debut as Dr. Malatesta at Schloss Braunfels in Germany with Opera Classica Europa, performing alongside tenor John Osborn.
In Iceland, Áslákur is a core member of the group Óður, which was named Performer of the Year at the 2026 Icelandic Music Awards. His work with the group focuses on making opera accessible through new Icelandic translations. His artistry was further recognized with a nomination for Singer of the Year at the 2024 Gríman Performing Art Awards.
In addition to opera, Áslákur has a strong interest in contemporary music and lieder. He has premiered new works, including Passía by Ingibjörg Ýr and Þrjár Lexíur by Högni Egilsson, and appeared in concert series such as Ár íslenska einsöngslagsins.
Immersed in theatre from a young age due to his actor parents, Áslákur developed a strong foundation in performance arts, which greatly influences his approach to opera. His early experiences in acting led to a nomination for Best Actor at the Icelandic Film Awards in 2004. Additionally, his background as a sound designer and theatre technician brings a unique perspective to his work.
